Banbali 100 fin: A visceral work on its way to Europe

From April 15 to 25, 2025, Malian choreographer Kadidja Tiemanta is in residence at the Copier Coller Center in Siby.
This working phase is part of the preparation for her European tour of the choreographic solo Banbali 100 fin, an intense and emotional work praised by critics.

Created in 2021, Banbali 100 fin is a 25-minute solo, produced by the Association Anw Ka Donko.
The piece, deeply personal, draws its strength from the choreographer’s experience with her mother’s illness.
Through a hybrid choreographic writing between traditional Malian dance and contemporary language, the artist’s body becomes prayer, memory, and outlet.

A residency to refine the artistic proposal

This residency in Siby is a valuable time to reshape the contours of the show, adjust the dramaturgy, enhance the stage emotion, and rework the physicality of the solo.
The goal: to perfect a work that is about to meet European audiences during a tour that will pass through the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, and Austria between May and June 2025.

• May 30, 2025 – Münchner Kammerspiele, Munich, Germany
• June 7 & 8, 2025 – Klagenfurt Festival, Klagenfurt, Austria

The piece won the Trophée Acogny de Bronze in 2023 at the Africa Simply the Best competition in Bobo-Dioulasso, a sign of its deep resonance on African stages.
It will now be supported by Faso Danse Théâtre (Belgium), the organization responsible for its international distribution.

An artist between rootedness and openness

Kadidja Tiemanta embodies a new generation of African creators at the crossroads of heritage and innovation.
Trained in Mali and internationally, she is also a performer in the revival of The Rite of Spring by Pina Bausch, in a pan-African cast supported by the École des Sables, the Pina Bausch Foundation, and Sadler’s Wells in London.
Since November 2024, she has been directing the Fari Foni Waati International Dance Festival in Bamako.

Through Banbali 100 fin, Kadidja offers a work that transcends borders, where the intimate becomes universal and where dance becomes an act of resilience.
