Bamako Celebrates International Dance Day 2025: A Vibrant Tribute to African Dances and Women Artists
In Bamako, dance will take center stage on April 28 and 29, 2025, thanks to the Union of Dancers of Mali, and the associations De Ceux Qui and Anw Ka Donko.
In a context where the arts play a vital role in bridging cultures and amplifying the voices of women artists, this celebration aims to be a key moment of creation, sharing, and mobilization.
By honoring African dances—living heritage and a driver of social connection—the event also reaffirms its commitment to the recognition and empowerment of women in the arts.
International Dance Day: A Universal Language for Freedom
Since its establishment in 1982 by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (UNESCO), International Dance Day has been celebrated every April 29 around the world.
Its purpose is to promote dance in all its forms, raise public awareness of its artistic and cultural importance, and unite people through the universal language of movement.
Chosen in tribute to Jean-Georges Noverre, a key figure in modern dance, this day is also a call for freedom, inclusion, and creativity across borders.
